Highland weather

Taken on Friday 22 September 2017 about 4.30 pm on the shoreline of Loch Tay by the Kenmore car park. A day of great contrasts on our family trip from Aberfeldy to Crieff and back from mist to torrential and brilliant sun over an hour. As my son Matt stood at the waters edge, the contrast in the sky was just fantastic, a weathermans dream.

It made for a good discussion over Friday steak night in the Black Watch!

Aberfeldy sign 1965

In 1965 a friend and I (age 21) travelled to Aberfeldy and stayed with the Steedmans, who had family , our neighbours, here in Mitchell, Ontario, Canada area. We were beginner musicians and played singalong folk songs a couple nights at a local bar, for light and bitters, in copious quantity as I recall (name long forgotten), worked in a local cemetary for a few days cleaning up cinder paths, and rode borrowed bicycles around the area with our guitars on our backs, always looking to meet local players. We heard the 'Sundowners, in a bar, one night, in a nearby village. We sat playing and singing, where Robbie Burns sat . Explored the old Castle Menzies. We still are musicians, somewhat improved, professional , both have owned music stores, and teaching and recording studios , both somewhat retired, and perform regularly.

Funny how looking up a tiny detail, on the net about something , now long forgotten, led me here. We loved the folks o' Aberfeldy and they really took a shine to us two young small town Canadians who have with great perserverance, been able to stay small town, over the last 50 years !

The Birks O' Aberfeldy

My favorite place to walk and take photos! It takes me three times as long as just walking because there are so many places to stop for a photo.

Traces of General Wade's Road

General Wade's military road network was built nearly 300 years ago, and includes Wade's Bridge in Aberfeldy, over which Bonnie Prince Charlie and his army crossed on their way north to the fateful battle of Culloden. This section is to the south on the approach down into Aberfeldy.

Farragon Hill from Loch na Craige

This used to be a regular sight on my way to work - and one day I actually got out of the car and took the photo! The hill in the background is Farragon (not Schiehallion!), and just after the loch there is a fantastic viewpoint and picnic spot.

Aberfeldy Distillery

The Aberfeldy Distillery sits just outside the town, and is a great place to visit all year round.
